Man dies by suicide alleging harassment by forest dept officials
Jaipur, Oct. 4 -- A 26-year-old man died by suicide in Jaipur Rural district on Friday, police said, adding that the deceased alleged assault and humiliation by forest officials for purportedly grazing his goats in a restricted area.
The incident sparked a wave of violent protests in the village, said police, adding that the local forest office was vandalised.
"The mob turned violent, pelted stones, and forced police personnel to retreat temporarily," Jaipur Rural superintendent of police Rashi Dogra Dudi said.
She added that around 10 people were detained for disturbing the peace.
The deceased was allegedly beaten, forced to strip and fined by two forest personnel on Thursday afternoon, said police, adding that he purportedly contacted a police control room to intimate authorities about the incident before his death.
The SP said the forest department had suspended three officials, and the family agreed to a post-mortem examination after their compensation demands were met following talks with the police and administration.
Local MLA Mahendra Pal Meena also reached the protest site and later met senior police officers, she added....
