Ajmer, Aug. 12 -- A 28-year-old man claiming to be a former Navy staffer was arrested from his home in Nagaur district late on Monday for allegedly running a makeshift drug lab out of his house and manufacturing and selling synthetic drugs, police said on Tuesday, adding that 650 grams of MD estimated to be worth Rs.20 crore was seized from his possession. The accused was identified as Mahaveer. Additional SP Asaram Chaudhary said he was allegedly running the makeshift lab out of a room inside his Deep Colony home that he shared with his parents and his wife for around three months. He added that Mahaveer's equipment had the potential to produce nearly 5 kilograms of MD at a time. Chemicals, electronic weighing machines, plastic bags and other equipment used for manufacturing and packaging, along with a pistol, live cartridges and Rs.1.8 lakh in cash was also seized from Mahaveer, said police. Police said the breakthrough came after a minor was allegedly caught supplying MD on a Bullet motorcycle. During questioning, the minor allegedly provided information that led the police to Mahaveer's residence. Police are also probing whether his wife, who works as a lab technician, had any knowledge of or involvement in the procurement or use of chemicals in the alleged manufacturing process. Investigators said Mahaveer claimed to transition into manufacturing drugs after he left the Navy in February. Police said he initially procured MD from Jodhpur and sold it, but later allegedly decided to manufacture the drug himself after finding that the profit margin from resale was low.
