LoP slams govt over delay in local polls
Jaipur, March 23 -- Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Rajasthan government, accusing it of presiding over a "complete breakdown of the system", fostering a "jungle raj" of criminals, and stalling development across the state.
Speaking in Alwar, Jully alleged that the government was "running away from democracy" and behaving in an authoritarian manner by delaying local body and panchayat elections. He said the tenure of the OBC Reservation Commission is set to end on March 31, yet the government is finding "new excuses" to postpone elections.
"Their mindset is completely authoritarian. They want to centralise power and weaken the roots of democracy, which could lead to a major constitutional crisis in the state," he said.
Taking a swipe at the administration, Jully said the situation has deteriorated to the extent that "even with a lamp, the government cannot be found anywhere".
Referring to a recent murder in Jodhpur's Bhikamkor area, he said it reflects the collapse of policing and the erosion of the rule of law in the state.
Targeting the government on development, Jully claimed the expansion of Kanwatia Hospital in Jaipur and a proposed trauma centre have remained pending for two years, while the final DPR for Jaipur Metro Phase-II has been awaiting approval from Centre for the past nine months.
Jully also criticised a Union minister over alleged remarks directed at state employees, calling them threatening and unacceptable. He accused the state government of maintaining a "cowardly silence" on the issue, terming it a betrayal of thousands of employees.
Reacting to the comments, BJP spokesperson Ram Lal Sharma said the party has always stood by employees, unlike the Congress government, during which there were frequent protests and strikes.
He said incidents of gang rape, arson and extortion were very common during the previous government. On local body and panchayat polls, Sharma said the BJP's intention is clear - "One Nation, One Election" - which, he added, is also supported by the public....
