Jaipur, Oct. 3 -- Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully on Thursday reiterated concerns over the state government's alleged use of two security cameras to spy on the Opposition in the state assembly premises, previously expressed by other senior members of the state Congress unit, including state party president Govind Singh Dotasra. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Jully reiterated demands for an independent probe into the matter, adding that opposition leaders had already apprised state governor Haribhau Bagade of the matter. "Democracy's highest institutions are Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies. If suspicion and surveillance find a place even here, it becomes a matter of grave concern for the entire nation," he said, adding that he had also requested audience with President of India Draupadi Murmu. "At no cost will we allow democratic values or the dignity of legislators to be undermined," he asserted. On September 11, Congress delegation had met Governor Haribhau Bagade asking to safeguard the dignity of the House. They called for a joint investigation committee comprising legislators from the ruling party, opposition, independents, and even representatives of smaller parties like BSP and Lok Dal. They also suggested that a retired high court judge be included to ensure impartiality. On September 15, women Congress MLAs Shimla Nayak and Geeta Barvad accused the Speaker Vasudev Devnani of violating legislative traditions and women's privacy. Addressing a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters in Jaipur, the MLAs said that while cameras and microphones inside the House are meant for broadcasting speeches live and maintaining Assembly records, additional cameras have been fixed in areas where women MLAs of the Opposition are seated. However, Speaker Devnani has already claimed that cameras had been part of the Assembly since its establishment, that upgrades had been made under the "One Nation, One Application" project, and that none of the devices recorded audio. "There is no invasion of privacy. Such allegations are baseless. Even Parliament functions with cameras," he said. Commenting on the issue, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, "They themselves are the masters in tapping the phones of their own MLAs, and now they see this everywhere. Congress has no real issues to raise, and just for headlines, they are bringing up such baseless matters."...
