JODHPUR, Aug. 28 -- Expressing concern over allegations levelled against the acting chief justice of the Rajasthan high court by a Supreme Court judge, three major high court bar associations on Thursday held an emergency meeting and called for preserving the institutional dignity, independence, and credibility of the judiciary. The joint meeting was convened virtually, comprising office-bearers of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association (Jaipur), the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers' Association (Jodhpur), and Rajasthan High Court Advocates' Association (Jodhpur). The move came amid media reports that Supreme Court judge justice Sandeep Mehta had addressed three separate communications to the Chief Justice of India (CJI), raising serious questions over the functioning and conduct of acting chief justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma. In a joint statement, leaders of the three bar associations including presidents Rajeev Sogarwal, Dilip Singh Udawat, and Ranjeet Joshi strongly condemned any alleged misuse of judicial office or institutional mechanisms. The associations asserted that any situation casting doubt on judicial impartiality and dignity must be dealt with utmost seriousness. The bodies, however, cautioned against rushing into premature judgments. They resolved to hold a comprehensive joint review meeting in two days to examine all facts and deliberate future action. "We humbly expect the higher judiciary to accord top priority to institutional sanctity, transparency, and independence while taking necessary measures, ensuring that public faith in the justice delivery system remains uncompromised," it said....
