Kota, Sept. 9 -- Residents living near Chhatra Vilas Udyan in Kota's Nayapura on Tuesday spotted a leopard perched on a tree inside the park and alerted authorities, officials said. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Pramod Dhakad said the leopard was spotted at around 7 am. A forest department team reached the park within about 30 minutes and began efforts to rescue the animal. Officials said over 200 people were inside the park when the leopard was spotted. The premises were evacuated and police personnel were deployed at all gates to keep people from the area during the rescue operation. After reaching the park, the forest team first monitored the animal's movement before clearing the premises and beginning the tranquilisation operation The rescue team used a crane to get closer to the leopard and fire tranquiliser darts. However, the first two to three attempts missed the animal. The crane was subsequently moved closer to the tree, allowing the team to take another shot from around 10 feet away, which turned to be successful. The team then began efforts to safely bring the leopard down from the tree. A net had already been spread below the tree by forest department personnel to prevent the animal from being injured in the fall. After nearly two hours of efforts, the leopard was successfully brought down and rescued.
