lecturer in jodhpur sacked over sexual harassment
Jodhpur, Oct. 11 -- Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurveda University in Jodhpur on Saturday sacked a lecturer after female students accused him of sexual harassment and threatening to fail them in practical examinations, officials said.
The action followed a protest by students at the vice-chancellor's office. Vice-chancellor Dr Govind Sahai Shukla said the university had also constituted a high-powered committee to investigate the allegations.
"The students were heard following the complaint, and orders were issued to immediately terminate Dr Ajit Singh Charan, who was working as a lecturer on an urgent temporary basis," Shukla said.
In their complaint to the vice-chancellor, students alleged that Charan, a lecturer in the department of yoga and naturopathy, pressured them to visit his room. They also accused him of making inappropriate comments about their bodies and threatening to fail them in practical examinations if they did not comply.
The students submitted several WhatsApp chats to university authorities, alleging that they contained objectionable messages from the lecturer, officials said. One student alleged that Charan made inappropriate comments when she approached him with her file during a practical examination in February.
Charan could not be reached for comment....
