Jaipur, Aug. 20 -- After Maharashtra and Karnataka, Congress in Rajasthan is now preparing to conduct its own probe into alleged "vote chori" as the political storm over electoral fraud intensifies. Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully on Tuesday alleged large-scale irregularities in Tijara, Bhiwadi, and Alwar, claiming that voting patterns showed signs of manipulation. BJP rejected the allegations and said the party was spreading lies as it has lost hope to win elections. "We are gathering documents showing how voting percentages spiked abnormally after 5 pm and how multiple voters were registered at the same address. In Bhiwadi, outsiders managed to get their names added to voter lists in residential flats and cast votes," Jully said. The move being prepared by Rajasthan Congress comes in the backdrop of similar accusations made by the party in Bihar, where it has accused the BJP of colluding with the Election Commission to facilitate bogus voting. Though the Election Commission has dismissed the charges as baseless, the allegations have added fuel to the escalating war of words between the BJP and the Opposition. "I feel the most important issue here is the EVMs. Whenever questions were raised (during elections), the same complaint came up - that people were casting their votes for one party but the vote was being recorded in the BJP's symbol, the lotus. This was reported from many places." "Even in my own constituency, where I contested elections, there was a village where voters pressed the button for Congress but the vote was recorded in the lotus. This actually happened, and later it was also confirmed. I want to say that this is a matter on which questions have been raised repeatedly," he said. "I want to emphasise that such fraud has taken place everywhere. All of this must be made clear. Even now, if we talk about Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, large-scale fraud took place in Tijara and Bhiwadi. In Alwar too, due to mismanagement, rigging occurred. All of this needs to be investigated," Jully said. He said that he recently joined Rahul Gandhi's visit to Bihar in protest against the special intensive revision (SIR). "There, the Election Commission acted with such haste that it revised the entire voter list within a month and removed 65 lakh (6.5 million) names from it. The striking part was that not a single new name was added," he said, adding that there was visible anger among the people regarding this. The LoP said that within one month, when it is also the rainy season, when floods are occurring, and farm work is going on, they carried out the entire SIR exercise and deleted people's votes. "We have approached the Supreme Court. The Court has directed that the list of 65 lakh (6.5 million) deleted names be uploaded on the portal and linked with Aadhaar. This will provide some relief, but the people of Bihar are furious. They are aware of these 'vote thieves' and this time, when the opportunity comes, they will give a fitting response," the LoP said. He said as far as Rajasthan is concerned, if the SIR is to be done, it should be done properly. "People should be facilitated. We do not want fake votes to be added, but genuine votes should also not be removed. There are still three years left for elections in Rajasthan, so it can be done smoothly. What happened in Bihar - doing everything in one month - is wrong. And here too, people must not be harassed unnecessarily." "Why should a poor man be forced to submit 20 photocopies, losing his daily wages just to prove his right to vote? It is the duty of the Election Commission to verify house-to-house, not trouble the common man," he said. Responding to the allegations, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, "Congress has lost hope of winning elections through the people's mandate, and now, just to appease and console their workers, they are spreading lies. The public will give them an apt reply." He added that the real problem lies with their leadership, which they cannot change, and hence they are only looking for excuses for their defeat....
