Jaipur to get real-time traffic command centre
Jaipur, April 10 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Thursday directed officials to set up a new Integrated Command Centre for real-time traffic management in Jaipur, while also pushing for measures to ease congestion.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Chief Minister's Office, instructed the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and traffic police to work in coordination with all concerned departments to implement a comprehensive traffic management plan at the earliest. He also warned of performance and liquidity penalties against officials and contractors found negligent in executing projects.
The chief minister asked officials to expedite ongoing construction of key projects, including ROBs at CBI Phatak, Saligrampura Phatak and Civil Lines Phatak, as well as the Gopalpura and Sanganer elevated roads, ensuring quality and timely delivery. He also called for an effective traffic management plan for the busy JLN Marg.
Directions were issued to fast-track DPRs for proposed projects such as the Aranya Bhawan-Jagatpura elevated road and the Dravyavati elevated corridor. Sharma also ordered a fresh feasibility assessment for a proposed ROB linking Ram Mandir, Railway Yard and Railway Circle, along with the Old Chungi underpass on Ajmer Road.
To streamline traffic flow, the CM emphasised making major stretches like Mahal Road, Sikar Road and New Sanganer Road signal-free through double U-turn systems. He also directed expansion of the free left-turn model, already implemented at Rambagh Circle, to other major intersections.
Highlighting safety concerns, Sharma instructed authorities to close unauthorised median openings on key roads and properly identify and develop designated U-turn points. He also called for prioritising lane marking, junction redesign and construction of roundabouts to manage increasing traffic pressure.
The chief minister stressed the need for controlled pedestrian crossings at busy intersections and markets, along with improved safety measures in school zones, including signage, speed control and zebra crossings. He also directed JDA, municipal bodies and traffic police to ensure regulated and systematic parking management across the city.
Sharma asked traffic police to launch awareness drives in collaboration with NGOs and use FM radio to promote road safety. He also suggested sharing a brief rulebook with violators along with challans.
The proposed Integrated Command Centre will be developed as a model facility, integrating inputs from JDA, transport department, municipal bodies and traffic police to enable real-time monitoring and efficient traffic regulation....
