Jaipur, June 26 -- The corruption case involving APO IPS officer Madhav Upadhyay has been referred to the Rajasthan government after investigators submitted a detailed report following scrutiny at multiple levels within Police headquarters. Senior police officials said this is the first known case in the state in which an IPS officer has faced serious corruption allegations during his probation. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior officer associated with the inquiry said the matter was initially investigated at the superintendent of police (SP) level. The findings were subsequently examined by the vigilance department, which verified several inputs before forwarding the file to the director general of police (DGP). The report has now been sent to the state government for further action. The Rajasthan government had appointed Upadhyay, a 2023-batch IPS officer assistant, as superintendent of police (ASP), Bhilwara Sadar, on probation on August 24, 2025. The allegations first surfaced in connection with alleged illegal extortion linked to garnet mining operations in Bhilwara. People familiar with the investigation said the officer allegedly operated a wider network extracting payments from mine operators and others associated with the business. According to the people, Rs.30,000 was allegedly fixed per lease, of which Rs.10,000 was purportedly earmarked for Upadhyay. Around 25 mining lease holders are believed to have been targeted....
