infant succumbs to dog attack injuries in ajmer
Ajmer, April 29 -- A one-and-a-half-month-old infant on Tuesday succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack by stray dogs in Kalesara village of Pisangan, about 40 km from Ajmer, said doctors. He remained on ventilator support for four days before dying of cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning, doctors added.
According to doctors, the infant suffered severe internal injuries, with multiple organs damaged. Senior paediatric surgeon Dr Lakhan Poswal said, "The child underwent emergency surgery and was kept under intensive care, but blood pressure remained critically low, kidneys stopped functioning, and pulses were barely detectable. The baby had earlier been revived with CPR after cardiac arrest but could not survive."
The attack occurred on the night of April 24 while the baby slept in a hut. At the time of the incident, the mother was cooking outside while the father was away for work. The infant's three-year-old sibling was sleeping nearby under a blanket and escaped the attack. Dogs reportedly mauled the child for nearly five minutes, leaving the intestines exposed.
Paediatric surgeon Dr Garima Arora described it as an extremely rare and horrific dog-bite case, the first of its kind she had witnessed in 15 years. "The baby's abdominal wall was completely torn, intestines had come out, and infection spread due to dog saliva," said Dr Arora.
Doctors repaired multiple wounds measuring 5-6 cm and treated bite and claw marks found on the chest and abdomen. Despite continuous medical efforts, the infant died after suffering another cardiac arrest....
