Infant's body remains unclaimed for 6 days; cops look for parents
Ajmer, Oct. 5 -- The body of a four-month-old infant has remained unclaimed in the mortuary of Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital for six days after his parents reportedly left the hospital following his death. Police are trying to trace the family, but an incomplete residential address and a switched-off mobile number have hampered their efforts.
The infant died on September 29 while undergoing treatment at hospital's paediatric department. According to hospital records, he was admitted on September 14 with a serious infection and shifted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Despite treatment, his condition did not improve. His mother, Sapna, and father, Pawan, reportedly left the hospital after his death without informing the staff and have not returned to claim the body. The family is said to be originally from Madhya Pradesh.
The hospital administration placed the body in the mortuary and informed Sadar Kotwali police. However, the parents had not provided their complete residential address at the time of admission, while the mobile number recorded in the hospital documents has remained switched off.
Kotwali SHO Rameshwar Devi said, "Police had made several attempts to locate the parents but had been unable to establish their address in Madhya Pradesh. Efforts are continuing to trace the family so that the necessary formalities can be completed and the child's last rites performed."
The circumstances surrounding parents' departure remain unclear. The incomplete information in the hospital records has also made it difficult for police to establish their whereabouts. If the family cannot be traced in the coming days, police will arrange the infant's last rites with assistance from the municipal corporation and voluntary organisations, officials said....
