INdependent candidate dies day after civic poll win in Pali
Barmer, Sept. 16 -- Independent candidate Abrar Khan, who was elected as councillor from Ward 7 of the Marwar Junction Municipality, died on Tuesday, a day after winning the municipal election, according to police.
Police said Khan's health deteriorated at his residence on Tuesday morning, following which his family members rushed him to the Community Health Centre. He was later referred to Bangar Hospital in Pali, where doctors declared him dead after examination.
The Marwar Junction Municipality has 25 wards. In the results declared on Monday, the BJP and Congress won 11 wards each, while three wards were won by independent candidates. With neither party securing a majority, both the BJP and Congress needed the support of independents to form the municipal board. Ward 7 was considered an important seat in the municipal elections.
The BJP had fielded Laxman Das Sawlani, while Vaibhav Sharma contested from the Congress. Haji Abrar Khan, president of the Muslim community, contested as an independent candidate.
