Jaipur, July 27 -- Monsoon activity has weakened across Rajasthan, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting relatively subdued rainfall over most parts of the state on July 26 and 27. However, a fresh weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to revive rainfall from July 28, with another active monsoon spell likely between July 29 and August 2. According to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, the low-pressure area over southwest Rajasthan has weakened into a cyclonic circulation, resulting in weaker monsoon conditions across most parts of the state. The IMD said the low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and is likely to strengthen further into a deep depression over the next 24 hours while moving northwestwards. Under its influence, rainfall activity is expected to increase again over parts of eastern Rajasthan from July 28. The weather department has also forecast another active phase of the monsoon across most parts of Rajasthan from July 29 to August 2. During this period, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in eastern and northwestern Rajasthan. Rain activity is also expected to increase in parts of the Bikaner division during the same period. Meanwhile, the recent heavy rain has filled the Govindgarh Dam in Ajmer to its full capacity of 4.70 metres. The dam has started overflowing. Officials said Ajmer has received 62% more rainfall than its seasonal average so far this monsoon. However, the cumulative rainfall remains less than half of what the district had recorded during the corresponding period last year.
