High court extends interim bail to Asaram in Pocso case
Jodhpur, April 30 -- The Rajasthan high court on Wednesday extended interim bail granted to Asaram Babu (86), who is serving a life sentence for raping a minor, either until May 25, or until the verdict on his appeal is delivered, said lawyers aware of the proceedings.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Sangeeta Sharma passed the order. Asaram's counsel Devadatt Kamat informed the court that the hearing on Asaram and his co-accused's appeals against their life sentences concluded on April 20 and the court reserved its judgement.
Asaram had earlier been granted six months' interim bail by the court on October 29, 2025, in a hearing regarding his petition seeking suspension of sentence. He was arrested in 2013 for raping a minor at his ashram in Jodhpur. In 2018, a trial court convicted him under the Pocso Act and sentenced him to life imprisonment....
