Bharatpur/Jaipur, Aug. 8 -- Heavy rain lashed several parts of eastern Rajasthan on Friday, triggering widespread waterlogging, inundating roads and markets, and prompting flood alerts in low-lying areas as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast an active monsoon across the state over the coming week. Rain, which began late Thursday night in Jaipur, continued till around 11 am on Friday. In Sikar district, heavy showers submerged major markets in Shrimadhopur under nearly three feet of water, while Neem Ka Thana and adjoining areas also received substantial rainfall. In Dholpur's Rajakhera, several colonies were flooded after heavy showers, while the rising Parvati river prompted the district administration to issue an alert and advise residents to stay away from rivers, streams and waterlogged areas. Officials warned that connectivity between the district headquarters and several villages in Saipau and Rajakhera subdivisions could be affected if the Parvati river continues to rise. The district has recorded 279.6 mm of rainfall so far. According to the IMD, monsoon activity will remain active across most parts of eastern Rajasthan over the next week. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Udaipur divisions between August 8 and 10.
