Jaipur/Alwar/Bharatpur, Aug. 7 -- Heavy rain lashed several districts of eastern Rajasthan on Thursday, inundating roads and residential colonies, disrupting normal life and bringing much-needed relief to farmers awaiting showers for their kharif crops. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the monsoon will remain active over most parts of eastern Rajasthan for the next week, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in several districts. Intermittent rain was reported from Alwar, Kotputli-Behror, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur, Dholpur and Karauli since Thursday morning, leading to waterlogging in several urban areas. In Bharatpur, the district received 122.4 mm of rainfall, while Bayana recorded around 75 mm. Roads, markets and residential colonies were submerged as drainage systems struggled to cope with the downpour. Water entered the Bharatpur Municipal Corporation office and the district collectorate. Several colonies, including New Pushp Vatika, Pai Bagh, Govardhan Gate, Subhash Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Girish Vihar, Sewar and Namak Katra, witnessed severe waterlogging. The Chief Minister's Public Hearing Office near Inspector General of Police's office was also flooded. The rain, however, brought relief to farmers as agricultural fields filled with water after a prolonged dry spell. Rain-related incidents were also reported from the district. The boundary wall of a government senior secondary school collapsed in Mehrawar village, though no casualties were reported. In Bachhamadi village, a house's roof caved in, injuring a 15-year-old girl, who is undergoing treatment at Lakhanpur Primary Health Centre. In Alwar, nearly an hour of heavy rain from around 5 am exposed the city's poor drainage infrastructure. Major areas, including Hope Circus, Ghanta Ghar, Tripolia, the bus stand, Ashok Talkies and SMD Chowk, were inundated. The weather office has forecast increased rainfall activity between August 7 and 10 across parts of the Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Udaipur divisions, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places. Very heavy rainfall is also expected at one or two locations in the Kota and Udaipur divisions between August 7 and 9. In a separate incident, two men drowned in the Gambhir river in Bharatpur district when they went to bathe in it, police said on Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday evening, police said.
