JODHPUR, June 27 -- The state high court has summoned the secretary of the animal husbandry department and the director at the Directorate of Gopalan on July 6 to explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them for allegedly failing to comply with earlier court orders relating to water supply arrangements for gaushalas (cow shelters). A division bench of justices Kuldeep Mathur and Chandra Shekhar Sharma, while hearing a writ contempt petition filed by Go Gram Sewa Sangh, noted that the respondent department had submitted a detailed compliance report detailing steps taken to ensure water supply to all gaushalas as per a budget announcement by the state government. However, after examining the report, the bench found that tubewells had still not been installed in more than 700 gaushalas to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted water supply, despite the sanction of more than Rs.75 crore for the purpose.
