hc pulls up govt for approach on nari niketans
Jodhpur, Aug. 19 -- The Rajasthan high court has pulled up the State government for its casual approach in matters concerning Nari Niketans (shelter homes), observing that such issues are of serious public importance but are not being attended to with due seriousness, a lawyer familiar with the case said on Monday.
A division bench comprising chief justice K.R. Shriram and justice Sandeep Taneja was hearing a suo motu public interest litigation regarding the unfortunate state of affairs in Nari Niketans and the general apathy in the State with regard to these institutions.
"We have to record our displeasure in the manner in which the State is attending to such matters," the court said.
The Bench directed the principal secretary of the department of social justice and empowerment to ensure that timely instructions are provided to advocates so they can effectively assist the court in future hearings....
