HC dismisses P.I.L challenging V-C appointment
JODHPUR, Nov. 7 -- The Rajasthan High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation challenging the appointment of Sardar Patel University of Police, Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur, Vice-Chancellor Dr Alok Tripathi, holding that it was filed to settle personal scores. The court imposed costs of Rs.1 lakh on the petitioner, Vijay Singh Sheron, directing him to deposit the amount with the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority.
A division bench of Justices Vinit Kumar Mathur and Chandra Shekhar Sharma noted that Sheron had not challenged Tripathi's initial appointment in 2020 but approached the court in 2024, after proceedings were initiated against him by the Vice-Chancellor.
"The present petition has not been instituted bona fide," the bench observed, citing the petitioner's failure to disclose pending civil, revenue and criminal proceedings against him.
The court held that PILs could not be used to pursue personal vendettas.dinesh bothra...
