Jaipur, Oct. 10 -- Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde on Friday called for reforms in school education to align it more closely with Indian cultural values and ensure students develop intellectual abilities, moral values and sound judgement. Addressing the Shekhawati Sahitya Sangam in Sikar, Bagde said India needed an education system that went beyond academic learning to nurture ethical conduct, wisdom and cultural values. He also urged citizens to contribute to the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047. The governor said literary gatherings help refine ideas, encourage new thinking and expand knowledge. Describing literature as the pulse of society, he said writers must exercise restraint and maintain propriety while creating literary works. Highlighting Shekhawati's contribution to the armed forces, Bagde described the region as a land of valour, sacrifice and enterprise. He said several families in the region had generations serving in the defence forces, contributing to the country's security and integrity. Referring to India's literary and intellectual heritage, Bagde said epics such as the Mahabharata and Ramayana were studied abroad and the Vedas had been translated into German. He said the knowledge contained in the Upanishads would remain relevant for centuries and cited the concept of zero as a significant Indian contribution that transformed mathematical calculations. He also highlighted Rajasthan's folk traditions, saying folk songs and customs instil values of bravery, sacrifice and devotion to the motherland in children from an early age. He cited traditional verses celebrating the spirit of defending the land and honouring sacrifice.
