Govt 'ignored' SC/ST, minority in induction of IAS officers: Jully
Jaipur, Aug. 20 -- The Congress in Rajasthan on Tuesday hit out at the BJP government after four officers from other services were inducted into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), alleging that the selection process ignored candidates from reserved categories and minority communities.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) notified the induction of Nitish Sharma, Amita Sharma, Narendra Kumar Manghani, and Naresh Kumar Goyal from other services into the IAS cadre of Rajasthan.
Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, in a post on X, congratulated the newly inducted officers but questioned the state government's approach. "Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for a successful tenure to all the newly inducted officers from other services into the IAS of the Rajasthan cadre. But it is worth pondering why the BJP government in Rajasthan, in this selection, did not include a single officer from Dalit, backward, tribal, or minority communities?" he wrote.
Jully cited Rahul Gandhi's campaign for social justice and said: "Our leader Rahul Gandhi is fighting against the BJP to ensure representation for the backward, Dalit and tribal communities in higher positions. During the Congress government in Rajasthan, when officers from other services were inducted into the IAS, candidates from general, Dalit, and backward categories were all given opportunities."
Claiming that social justice can only be guaranteed by the Congress, Jully accused the BJP of sidelining disadvantaged groups.
"It is now clear that only Congress can ensure social justice. The BJP, by denying representation to these communities, merely seeks votes through empty slogans," he alleged.
Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra joined the attack calling the recent IAS inductions from other services a blatant display of caste bias.
In a post on X, Dotasra congratulated the four officers but questioned why no candidates from SC, ST, OBC, MBC, or minority communities were included. "This is extremely serious and shocking that the government could not find even a single eligible officer from SC, ST, OBC, MBC, or minority categories. This is why Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is advocating for a caste census - to ensure social justice and proportional representation based on population," he wrote.
He alleged that for the first time in Rajasthan's history, all seats were filled only from the general category.
"The selection process has always provided equal opportunity to qualified officers from all communities based on merit and seniority. But this time, filling all four seats exclusively from the general category is an open display of casteist mentality," he said.
Accusing the BJP government of betraying its mandate, he added, "The BJP, which came to power with the votes of 36 communities, owes accountability not to casteist officers but to the people of Rajasthan."
Reacting to the allegations, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj hit back at the Congress charge, saying leaders like Govind Singh Dotasra see caste in everything. "All selections were made strictly as per rules and due process. The UPSC conducts interviews, a committee gives its recommendations, and several officers had appeared for the interviews," he said....
