Jaipur, July 29 -- Rajasthan's sprawling tree plantation drive claimed a staggering 115,772,615 geo-tagged saplings planted across the state during 2025-26 - but the government's own field verification has covered barely 1.69 crore of them, or 14.6%, according to figures tabled in the Lok Sabha. The data was presented in response to a question by MP Amra Ram, who sought district-wise details of trees planted, their survival rates and expenditure incurred under the programme. Union minister of state for environment, forest and climate change Kirti Vardhan Singh furnished the reply based on information provided by the state government. The plantation drive spanned an unusually wide array of 72 government departments and bodies. The data showed that the forest, agriculture, horticulture departments as well as the Border Security Force, the justice department, and the Anti-corruption department all made entries under the drive. The education department emerged the single largest planter by volume, geo-tagging over 4 crore trees - more than a third of the state's total - but has verified only about 7% of that figure, of which survival stood at 75.5%. The forest department planted a comparatively modest 2.04 crore trees but had the second-highest verification volume (95.4 lakh checked) and one of the stronger survival rates among large planters, at 87.6%. Third-largest was VB-G RAM G with 1.9 crore geo-tagged trees, but survival lagged at 66.5%, with nearly 7 lakh of its verified saplings found dead. Among the worst performers were the art & culture department, which verified just 624 saplings of which only 7.05% survived, the food & civil supplies department with a 10.41% survival rate across 6,063 verified trees, and the industries department with 2,342 verified saplings, with a 14.65% survival rate. At least ten departments and institutions - including Nagar Nigam Greater Jaipur, , the Border Security Force, and the Justice Department - reported a perfect 100% survival rate, though nearly all of these involved very small numbers of verified saplings The government's answer put total Forest Department expenditure on plantation and maintenance at Rs.127.78 crore for 2025-26....
