Jaipur, July 15 -- The Rajasthan government and the state election commission (SEC) have jointly moved the Rajasthan high court seeking additional time to conduct Panchayat and Urban Local Body (ULB) elections, citing the pending report of the OBC Political Reservation Commission and the mandatory 90-day statutory election process. The application has been filed in response to contempt petitions moved by Congress leader Sanyam Lodha and petitioner Giriraj Singh Devenda, who alleged that the state government and the state election commission failed to comply with the High Court's direction to complete Panchayat and municipal elections by July 31, amounting to contempt of court. The state said while disposing of petitions filed by Lodha and Devenda, had directed it to complete the delimitation exercise and hold simultaneous elections to all Panchayats and Municipalities by April 15, 2026. It said the delimitation exercise was completed and the SEC prepared the final electoral rolls.
