Jaipur, Aug. 26 -- Motorists will now receive Google Maps alerts when approaching 93 identified accident hotspots across eight police districts in the Jaipur range under "Operation Safer Roads", police said on Tuesday The identified hotspots have been integrated into Google Maps. Police said motorists will receive a voice alert and an on-screen notification when they come within 500 metres to one kilometre of a danger spot. Data compiled by the state shows that Jaipur Rural has the highest number of identified locations at 28, followed by Dausa with 24, Kotputli-Behror with 17, Alwar with 11, Bhiwadi with five, Sikar with four, Khairthal-Tijara with three and Jhunjhunu with one. "Police have divided the locations into three categories based on the number of fatalities recorded during the three-year period. Six locations have been classified as red or Type A high-risk zones, where more than 20 people died in road accidents. Thirty locations have been placed in the orange or Type B category after recording between 10 and 20 fatalities, while 57 have been classified as yellow or Type C zones, where five to 10 deaths were reported," said IG Rahul Prakash. Police have also developed a QR code for the public, transporters and daily commuters. Scanning it on a smartphone will open a Google Maps layer showing the locations in red, orange and yellow. Motorists can check the danger spots along their route before beginning a journey, they added.
