Dungarpur, July 20 -- A suspected Chandipura virus has triggered a health alert in Rajasthan's Dungarpur district after a six-year-old girl died while undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Gujarat, officials aware of the matter said on Sunday. Health officials have launched surveillance and preventive measures in the affected village, though no fresh suspected cases have been reported so far. According to health officials, the girl, from Ratanpura village in Simalwara block, developed stomach flu on the evening of July 13. Her family initially took her to a private hospital in Simalwara, from where she was referred to Modasa in Gujarat as her condition deteriorated. She was later shifted to the Government Hospital in Himmatnagar, where she died during treatment on July 15. Doctors suspect Chandipura virus infection as the cause of death, though confirmation is awaited from laboratory test results.
