Udaipur, Nov. 13 -- Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has questioned the sidelining of BJP leader Vasundhara Raje, saying she is a capable leader who has successfully led the state twice. "When Vasundhara Raje was chief minister, she maintained a slightly different stance, but later our relations improved. I don't know why she has been made to sit at home. She is capable and has run the government twice," Gehlot said. Speaking to the media in Udaipur, Gehlot also expressed concern over the sudden transfer of chief secretary Sudhansh Pant to Delhi. "This information came as a surprise. I am worried that the same situation might arise for chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma," he said. Gehlot noted that Sharma, who is a first-time MLA, should make the most of the opportunity given to him. "God has given him this chance for the first time, but it seems he is unable to understand its importance," he remarked. He also raised questions over the monitoring of the state's ongoing urban service camps, saying, "No one knows who is overseeing these camps or whether they are even functioning properly. As the opposition, it is our responsibility to highlight shortcomings and criticize where needed. The government should not take it negatively." Gehlot accused the ruling BJP of disregarding the opposition and misusing public funds for publicity. "The government doesn't care about the opposition. They are running the administration without involving us and spending public money on promotion. The Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition have different responsibilities. The government should respect and welcome the role of the opposition," he said. Criticizing the BJP for turning the Vande Mataram initiative into a political event, Gehlot said, "What connection does the BJP have with Vande Mataram? It has never been sung in any RSS branch. Vande Mataram was first sung by Rabindranath Tagore at a Congress session - history proves that it was the Congress that gave it to the nation. It's good that you sing it too, but don't politicize it." He added that such national events should be planned collectively by involving all political parties, social leaders, and intellectuals. "Instead, the government is organizing these as publicity events, spending public funds on BJP programs," he alleged. Recalling his rapport with former chief minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Gehlot said, "Even when Shekhawat was in the opposition, our relations remained cordial inside and outside the Assembly. Today, the attitude is entirely different - the opposition is not being respected." Commenting on the issue, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, "The public hasn't forgotten Gehlot's behaviour towards Sachin Pilot when he was chief minister," he said. "The chief minister has already proved that he is far more capable than Gehlot ever was," he said....
