Jaipur, Oct. 8 -- Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has demanded a judicial probe into the recent fire at Jaipur's SMS Hospital, describing the tragedy as the result of severe administrative negligence. He highlighted the chaos and distress faced by families of the victims, who were left without guidance or communication from officials in the critical hours following the incident.
Addressing newspersons in Kota on Tuesday, he said, "My main demand is the appointment of a judicial commission. A judicial inquiry doesn't just examine the incident itself; it investigates the causes, where negligence occurred, why such incidents happen, what the potential risks are, how they can be prevented, and what steps should be taken. A proper investigation ensures that similar events do not happen in the future. What the government is doing now is superficial - forming a small committee of five or seven people, asking for a seven-day report."
Alleging rollback of popular schemes initiated under his tenure, he said, "I am not saying corruption disappears under Congress or any party, but now corruption has become rampant, causing even more distress to people," he said.
"Free healthcare, free medicines, free operations, free CT scans, free MRIs - all these benefits reached households in villages. Now the situation is weakening, and people are angry," added the former chief minister.
BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said that Gehlot was indulging only in politics and that no public welfare scheme had been discontinued under the current government's tenure.
