Jaipur, Sept. 1 -- Noted Egyptian painter Mohamed Abouelnaga explores memory, identity and the hidden dimensions of human existence in the exhibition 'Traces of Time...the Lived Life', where his portraits move beyond physical likeness to examine what lies beneath the human face. Part of Artchill's 149th exhibition which began on Sunday at Juneja Art Gallery in Jaipur, features works by Jogen Chowdhury, Jai Zharotia, PN Choyal, Subroto Mondal, Sant Kumar, Akash Choyal, Prokash Karmakar and Abouelnaga. Abouelnaga's project, 'Each of Us Carries a God Within', places portraiture at the centre of an exploration of the hidden being within every individual. His works move between the sacred and everyday, strength and fragility, and what people reveal and conceal. For the Egyptian artist, a portrait is not merely a record of physical features but a space for uncovering psychological and emotional layers. "The face carries memory, fear and the traces of time," Abouelnaga said, explaining the central idea behind his work. His figures often appear to emerge from a distant past, carrying echoes of history and ancient civilisations. At times, they recall ancient deities while remaining distinctly contemporary in their expression of human anxiety, vulnerability and inner conflict. Memory and material remain central to Abouelnaga's artistic language. His faces carry personal and collective histories, blurring the boundaries between the individual and universal. Through his portraits, he examines the relationship between the visible and invisible - the face presented to the world and the inner self that remains hidden. His work adds an international dimension to the exhibition while engaging with universal questions of identity, memory and vulnerability....
