Barmer, July 24 -- Education has emerged as the largest recipient of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding in Rajasthan over the last five financial years, receiving a cumulative Rs.1,773.02 crore between FY 2020-21 and FY 2024-25, data presented by the Union ministry of corporate affairs in the Lok Sabha shows. The information was shared on Monday in response to Unstarred Question No. 190 raised by member of Parliament Mahima Kumari Mewar. The MP sought details of the aggregate CSR spending by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and private sector companies in Rajasthan over the last five years. The reply was furnished by Harsh Malhotra, minister of state for corporate affairs. According to the Ministry, education consistently remained the largest focus area for CSR expenditure in Rajasthan. Companies spent Rs.221.46 crore on education in FY 2020-21, Rs.199.46 crore in FY 2021-22, Rs.349.53 crore in FY 2022-23, Rs.447.82 crore in FY 2023-24 and a record Rs.554.75 crore in FY 2024-25. The cumulative investment in education during the five-year period stood at Rs.1,773.02 crore, making it the highest-funded development sector in the State. The total CSR expenditure in Rajasthan also registered a sharp increase during the period. Companies spent Rs.670 crore in FY 2020-21, Rs.713.85 crore in FY 2021-22, Rs.1,123.16 crore in FY 2022-23, Rs.1,176.73 crore in FY 2023-24 and Rs.1,620.16 crore in FY 2024-25, taking the cumulative CSR investment in the State to Rs.5,303.90 crore over five years. Besides education, health care received Rs.907.58 crore over five years, including Rs.237.78 crore in FY 2024-25. Rural development projects attracted Rs.580.60 crore, followed by environmental sustainability with Rs.489.99 crore, livelihood enhancement projects with Rs.285.96 crore, poverty eradication, hunger and malnutrition with Rs.209.79 crore, animal welfare with Rs.157.26 crore, art and culture with Rs.138.80 crore, vocational skills with Rs.111.76 crore, training to promote sports with Rs.96.20 crore, women empowerment with Rs.79.56 crore, safe drinking water with Rs.108.35 crore, and sanitation with Rs.76.34 crore. District-wise data revealed Jaipur received the highest CSR expenditure during FY 2024-25 at Rs.347.79 crore, followed by Udaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Alwar.
