Diaspora's achievements a source of pride: Sharma
Jaipur, Oct. 9 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Wednesday called on non-resident Rajasthanis (NRRs) to channel their global expertise into Rajasthan's development, while announcing the December launch of a petrochemical refinery and full support for investors setting up Global Capability and data centres across the state.
Addressing a large gathering at the "Pravasi Rajasthani Meet" in Surat, Sharma emphasized the unique economic and cultural ties between Gujarat and Rajasthan and envisioned a collaborative future where Rajasthan emerges as a global hub for gems, jewellery, and entrepreneurship.
He highlighted the diaspora's potential in shaping the state's economy, culture, and social development, while unveiling plans for awards, investment opportunities, and dedicated initiatives to strengthen engagement with NRRs.
"Your achievements are not just a source of pride-they are a beacon for our youth and a bridge between our states," said Sharma.
Highlighting the historical and economic links between Gujarat and Rajasthan, Sharma said that the connection went beyond geographical proximity. He pointed to potential collaboration in sectors such as gemstones and jewellery, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and the upcoming petrochemical complex in Rajasthan.
"There are immense opportunities for cultural, social, and economic cooperation between our states," he added.
The chief minister said that Surat and Rajasthan share a spirit of entrepreneurship, creativity, and resilience. While Surat is world-renowned for diamond cutting and synthetic textiles, Rajasthan is famous for colored gemstones, Kundan and Meenakari jewelry, textiles, and other precious stones. "Together, we should work toward establishing Rajasthan as a global "Gems and Jewellery Hub" he said.
Sharma invited the diaspora to actively participate in the upcoming NRR Day, to be celebrated in Jaipur on December 10. To mark the occasion, the NRR Excellence Awards will honor individuals from the diaspora who have made outstanding contributions in science, business, arts, sports, literature, cinema, music, and social service.
"The state government will commence operations of a petrochemical refinery in December and will extend full support to investors in establishing Global Capability Centers and Data Centers," said Sharma.
Entrepreneurs and investors were being invited to invest in IT, pharma, textiles, gems and jewelry, energy, petrochemicals, tourism, and mining, added the chief minister.
He said Rajasthan had developed an institutional framework to strengthen ties with NRRs, with 26 active Rajasthan Foundation chapters both in India and abroad facilitating meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and cultural exchange.
Sharma stated that a dedicated department is being established to further engage with the global Rajasthani community. The initiative aims to involve NRRs in state development and ensure their active participation in realizing the vision of "Developed Rajasthan 2047."
He projected that Rajasthan's economy is on track to reach Rs.350 billion by 2030 and highlighted that of the Rs.35 lakh crore MoUs signed during the 'Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit,' projects worth Rs.7 lakh crore are already on the ground and work for them had already been initiated....
