Jaipur, Aug. 12 -- The state police on Monday decided to form a special cell and appoint nodal officers to monitor fraud in government welfare schemes, including Samman Nidhi, Janani Suraksha Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana, officials said on Monday Director general of police Rajeev Kumar Sharma gave the order while presiding over a meeting to assess the state's law and order crime control measures and progress in probes and departmental proceedings at the state police headquarters. The meeting reviewed crime trends, cybercrime, crimes against women and children, action against drug trafficking, serious cases and the progress of various special drives. Sharma ordered the establishment of a dedicated mechanism to monitor fraud related to government schemes. Nodal officers will be appointed and a special cell constituted to track cases involving schemes such as Samman Nidhi, Janani Suraksha and Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana, he said. The meeting also reviewed preparations for implementation of the Next-Gen e-Challan System under the traffic branch. Officers were directed to complete all preparations required for the new system within the stipulated timeframe. Data presented at the meeting showed a decline in the rate of reported crime in the state by 17.25% in the first seven months of 2026 compared with to the corresponding period in 2024. Compared with 2025, POCSO cases reported declined by 21.56% in 2026, and rape cases reported also logged a 10.67% drop. The DGP directed officers to ensure speedy and sensitive probes in cases involving crimes against women and children, provide necessary assistance to victims and complete investigations on time. The meeting also reviewed the disposal of cases within 60 and 90 days, use of electronic evidence and the status of summons. With cybercrime emerging as a major challenge, Sharma reviewed the availability of staff against sanctioned strength at cyber police stations across districts. Officials also discussed the comparative number of cybercrime FIRs and arrests, identification of mule bank accounts and cybercrime hotspots, and action against SIM cards being used in cyber offences. Traffic enforcement remained a major focus, with 3,73,104 actions carried out, including 1,69,089 cases under the Motor Vehicles Act, 87,357 cases involving riding without helmets and 80,023 cases of over-speeding. During a special drive conducted from July 20 to August 2, police arrested 1,248 wanted and organised criminals. In addition, 614 cases were registered under the NDPS Act, 226 under the Arms Act and 474 cases related to illegal mining. Police also arrested 426 cyber criminals during the period. On digital safety, police succeeded in getting 98.8% of social media posts related to crimes against women and children and 88.8% of posts threatening communal harmony taken down. Rajasthan ranked second among large states in the implementation of new criminal laws and e-governance, with an overall national rank of eighth and a score of 86.11.
