Cops seize Opium after gun battle with Smugglers
Udaipur, May 25 -- City police and smugglers exchanged fire during a late Sunday night naka checking operation in the Gogunda area, where police seized 421 kg of illegal opium doda chura worth nearly Rs.1 crore from a a vehicle, police said. The smugglers managed to flee into the dense forests near Ranakpur after opening fire at the police.
According to police, the incident took place around 2 am when the Sayra police team had set up a checkpoint near Majawada on the Ranakpur road. During vehicle checking, the team spotted a suspicious white Scorpio and signaled it to stop. Instead of halting, the smugglers broke through the barricade and fired directly at the team.
Sayra SHO Kanaram Seervi said, "The smugglers fired nearly eight rounds at the police team. In retaliation, police fired three rounds, one of which hit the glass of the Scorpio vehicle." Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act....
