cops seize 393kg opium plants in Khairthal; 1 held
Alwar, March 20 -- Police in Khairthal on Thursday seized a 393 kg of opium plants and arrested one accused, in a major crackdown on illegal narcotics cultivation, officers said.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided Harsoli village under the Khairthal police station limits and unearthed an illegal opium cultivation operation.
"During the search, officers found a total of 5,050 opium plants of varying sizes, weighing approximately 393 kilograms. The entire crop was seized on the spot," said additional superintendent of police Jaya Singh said.
The accused, identified as Omi, son of Jagdish Prasad, a resident of Harsoli, was arrested from the spot, police said and added that he had been secretly cultivating opium in the field for a considerable period.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway, police said....
