Jaipur, June 28 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday accused the Centre and the state government of deliberately delaying justice in the high-profile murder case of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, who was murdered in June 2022.
In a post on X, Gehlot shared a media report on the trial's progress and said that nearly four years after the murder justice remained elusive. He claimed the delay was "not merely negligence but a well-thought-out conspiracy" and alleged that the accused were linked to the ruling BJP.
The report noted that during the last 27 months of trial proceedings, only 21 of the prosecution's 180 listed witnesses were examined, while statements of the remaining 159 witnesses-including key witnesses Ishwar Gaur and Rajkumar-were still pending.
The report added that the testimony of DNA expert, scheduled for June 18, could not be recorded for unspecified reasons and has now been rescheduled to July 2. The NIA had initially listed 166 witnesses in its chargesheet and added 14 more witnesses in January 2026.
Referring to what he called the BJP's alleged "Rs.5 lakh versus Rs.50 lakh" narrative during elections, Gehlot accused the party of spreading misinformation to win votes.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Ram Lal Sharma said it took 17 years for the killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to be punished. "There is a democratic process in the country, and the government is making every effort to ensure that justice is delivered to the family as soon as possible," he said....
