Cong leaders slam govt over women's safety, BJP hits back
Jaipur, May 29 -- Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot and leader of opposition Tikaram Jully on Thursday attacked the BJP government over the law-and-order situation in the state, alleging a rise in crimes against women and accusing the government of failing to control criminal activities.
In a post on social media platform X, Gehlot claimed that Rajasthan's law and order was "completely on ventilator" and alleged that the BJP government was "sleeping in deep slumber". He cited NCRB 2024 data and claimed Rajasthan ranked first in rape cases in the country. Gehlot alleged that no part of the state, including Jaipur, Dausa, Alwar and Banswara, was safe for women and girls.
The Congress leader also alleged that victims seeking justice were being pressured into compromise and questioned whether criminals had stopped fearing the law under the BJP government. Jully also accused the BJP government of turning Rajasthan into a "hub of crime" due to rising incidents of murder, abduction and rape. Referring to recent alleged gang-rape cases in Alwar and Jaipur, Jully said women and girls were no longer safe at homes, schools, temples or on roads.
Jully alleged that criminals had become emboldened as the "fear of law" had ended in the state and questioned how long women would continue to suffer under what he termed "jungle raj".
BJP spokesperson Ram Lal Sharma said that since the formation of the BJP government in Rajasthan, efforts have been made to strengthen law and order, which he alleged had deteriorated during the Congress government's tenure.
He said, "A criminal is a criminal. We do not see caste or religion," adding that such an approach was lacking during the Congress regime.
He further said no criminal would be spared. HTC...
