CM too 'humble' to have control over govt: Gehlot
Jaipur, Nov. 2 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday asserted that chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma lacked authority over his own government, with a jibe stating that he was too "humble" to have any real control.
Speaking to reporters in the city, Gehlot said, "The chief minister is so humble, he lacks authority over his own administration. Who will do his work now? The state's law and order is worsening by the day."
"He got a big opportunity as he was made chief minister during his first tenure as MLA. He should exercise the full scale of that office''s authority. But he cares more about casting an eye on the future while we have been suggesting that he turns his focus upon the governance needs of the present, and leave the rest for later," added Gehlot.
He also took an opportunity to campaign for the Congress candidate in the upcoming bypolls in the Anta constituency, Pramod Jain, saying, "Our candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya is the only one who looks after the people of Baran. From giving people free healthcare to developing the local cow shelters, he has done a lot of work in the area. The BJP has nothing else to offer, so they seek to smear him as corrupt," he said.
Gehlot also addressed the recent declaration of a strike by private bus operators in the state, saying, "I have never seen the people of Rajasthan so upset. Everyone is saying that no one in the government is listening to them. The bus operators are on strike. The government must sit, talk and figure out a way forward. People are suffering."
Gehlot also reiterated his committment to his role as a star-campaigner for the Congress and RJD-led Mahagathbandhan in the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, expressing support for the Mahagathbandhan's chief ministerial face and RJD scion Tejashwi Yadav, and also hailed Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's campaign against alleged electoral rigging across the country.
"BJP has unleashed anarchy across the country. Rahul Gandhi has constantly exposed their efforts to rig elections everywhere. The people of Bihar are certainly aware of this," said Gehlot.
He attacked incumbent Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and the NDA over alleged lack of empathy with the people of Bihar. "Yesterday, we saw how (Bihar CM) Nitish Kumar left the press conference soon after launching the manifesto. It was probably the shortest press conference I have ever seen. He probably knows what the BJP is going to do with him after the elections are over and therefore denied to make any commitment," he added.
Launching a scathing attack on the Election Commission, Gehlot said, "The EC's approach is extremely dangerous. Since independence, India has never seen assembly elections like those that happened in Maharashtra and also in many places during Lok Sabha elections. EC's duty is to address all the complaints raised by anyone. But they are asking for affidavits when we are raising issues."
Reacting to Gehlot, BJP spokesperson, Laxmikant Bharadwaj, said, "Crime rates across the state have declined significantly in the last two years under the BJP government. Chief minister Sharma is handling the state efficiently and he has full authority to do his job. In two years, he had achieved what Gehlot failed to achieve in five years. Therefore, he is making bizarre comments to mislead the people. In reality, the people in Rajasthan are extremely happy with the tenure of this government."...
