Jaipur, Aug. 30 -- Rajasthan chief secretary V Srinivas met Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City on Friday as part of a 520-member delegation of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS). Srinivas, who is also president of the IIAS, attended a special blessing ceremony during which the Pope conveyed his blessings and good wishes for the development and progress of Rajasthan and India, according to a state government statement. Addressing the delegation, Pope Leo XIV called for a human-centred approach to artificial intelligence and other rapidly evolving digital technologies. He said technological advancement must serve citizens and the wider public good, with the welfare of people taking precedence over private interests. Referring to the rapid development of AI, the Pope stressed the need to safeguard human interests through the balanced and responsible use of technology. He cautioned that technology must serve humanity and that people should not become victims of their own inventions. The Pope also expressed concern over entrusting machines with important decisions affecting human life and underlined the irreplaceable role of human intelligence. He called for an effective ethical framework to govern the human-centred use of digital technologies and encouraged the IIAS to continue research aimed at ensuring that their application in public administration serves life and peace.
