Jaipur, June 9 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates Satish Poonia and Alka Gurjar on Monday filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections in Rajasthan, in the presence of chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma and senior party leaders. Before the nominations were filed, a BJP legislature party meeting was held at the Rajasthan Assembly, where CM Sharma praised the two candidates, stating that their experience would benefit both the state and the country. He described their entry into the Upper House as a "matter of pride" for Rajasthan. The chief minister said that India has witnessed unprecedented development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and added that the "double-engine government" in Rajasthan was working towards public welfare through various schemes. Highlighting state initiatives, Sharma referred to programmes such as Gram Vikas Rath and Gram Vikas Chaupal, saying they aim to ensure development reaches the last person. He also cited the Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan, calling it a successful example of turning water conservation into a people's movement. He urged BJP legislators to actively participate in campaigns marking 12 years of the Modi government and take its achievements to the grassroots level. "It is our responsibility to take the historic work done during the last 12 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to every household," he said. Following the legislature party meeting, Poonia and Gurjar submitted their nomination papers before the returning officer. Among those present during the filing were former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, deputy chief ministers Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa, parliamentary affairs minister Jogaram Patel, BJP state president Madan Rathore, and state organisation general secretary Ajey Kumar.
