Jaipur, Sept. 18 -- The BJP organised a series of programmes across Rajasthan on Thursday to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, with party workers and supporters lighting lamps at homes, public places and village squares at 7pm as part of the "Aashirwad Ka Diya" initiative. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma extended birthday greetings and said the PM's public life had been dedicated to public and national service. Sharma said the country was observing Modi's birthday through the "Seva Sankalp Abhiyan - Jan Seva Hi Prabhu Seva" and appealed to people in Rajasthan to participate in the programme. Sharma urged people to light an "Aashirwad Ka Diya" at 7pm on September 17, describing the lamps as a symbol of the resolve for a developed India and a developed Rajasthan. BJP state president Madan Rathore said the "Seva Sankalp Abhiyan" would be organised from September 17 to October 17 to mark what the party described as Modi's 25 years of public and national service. Rathore said party workers and members of the public would light lamps at homes, public places and village squares on Thursday evening and offer prayers for Modi's health and longevity. Booth committee members were also asked to visit beneficiaries' homes and light the lamps as part of the programme. According to Rathore, students will be provided information on Modi's public service initiatives and the concept of a developed India, while painting competitions will also be organised.
