Jaipur, Sept. 11 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expelled seven more rebel leaders on Wednesday night, a day before voting in the second phase of Rajasthan's urban local body elections, taking the total number of expulsions to 49. The latest action covers five leaders from the Ajmer Municipal Corporation and one each from the Jaitaran and Mundwa municipalities. The Congress, meanwhile, has yet to initiate any major action at the state level against its rebel candidates. "The party has received complaints against rebels from various urban bodies. Action will be taken after the second phase of elections," state Congress general secretary Swarnim Chaturvedi told HT. Chaturvedi said the party had so far received complaints against more than 80 rebels.
