Barmer district sizzles at 48.3degC as heatwave grips state, says IMD
Jaipur, May 13 -- Rajasthan witnessed dramatic weather contrasts over the past 24 hours, with Barmer recording a blistering 48.3 degrees Celsius - the highest temperature not only in the state this season but also in the country - even as several northern districts experienced rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), southwest Rajasthan remained firmly in the grip of an intense heatwave, with temperatures in several districts hovering between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius. The extreme heat disrupted normal life across western Rajasthan, forcing people indoors during peak afternoon hours.
Apart from Barmer, Phalodi recorded 46.4 degrees Celsius, Jodhpur 46 degrees, Jaisalmer 45.8 degrees, Chittorgarh 45.6 degrees and Bikaner 45 degrees Celsius. Jhunjhunu registered 44.8 degrees, Kota 44.7 degrees and Churu 44.5 degrees Celsius. Ganganagar recorded 43.5 degrees while Jaipur registered 43.2 degrees Celsius.
