Anti-encroachment drive on New Sanganer Road after HC order
Jaipur, Oct. 6 -- The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) on Monday began removing permanent and temporary encroachments along a three-kilometre stretch of New Sanganer Road from Sodala Tiraha to Gurjar Ki Thadi, following Rajasthan High Court directions.
The road, currently 100-120 feet wide at several points, is proposed to be widened to about 160 feet. Around two dozen bulldozers and Poclain machines were deployed, along with a large police contingent. The drive will be carried out in phases.
Affected residents and traders disputed the demarcation and demanded compensation and rehabilitation, saying the demolition threatened homes and livelihoods ahead of Diwali. JDA officials said 210 notices had been issued and objections would be examined before further action.
"Demarcation was carried out and notices were issued on the High Court's instructions," said Islam Khan, deputy superintendent of police in the JDA enforcement wing. "These objections will be examined and resolved, and further action will be taken after that."
Dinesh Yadav of the New Sanganer Vyapar Mandal said 241 of about 500 shops had been identified for action and demanded compensation for those losing more than half their shops.
Local BJP MLA Gopal Sharma questioned the demarcation, while Congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas alleged that compensation or rehabilitation was required before demolition.
The JDA is required to submit a compliance report to the High Court by October 6. Some affected property holders have also approached the Supreme Court, though their plea is yet to be heard....
