Ajmer, Aug. 6 -- An SC/ST Special Court in Merta city on Wednesday acquitted all 40 accused in the Dangawas massacre case in which six people, including five Dalits, were killed in a clash over a land dispute in Nagaur district on May 14, 2015. Special Judge Ashish Bijaraniya of the court in Merta pronounced the verdict in the 11-year-old case related to the dispute over 23 bighas of land in Dangawas village. The dispute, which had been ongoing for nearly 40 years, turned deadly in Dangaawas village after members of one family were allegedly attacked with tractors and sharp-edged weapons. The investigation was handed over to the CBI. Counsel for the accused, Mahendra Chaudhary, argued that the CBI investigation was flawed. He claimed that the complainant side had incorrectly stated that the disputed land belonged to them. He alleged that the complainant side had formed a group to take possession of the land and that the CBI failed to include several crucial facts in its investigation. He also said people arrived gradually after receiving information about the dispute. The victims' families said they respected the court's verdict but questioned who was responsible if all the accused had been acquitted.
