ACB raids associate professor for accumulating assets worth Rs.2.77 cr
Jaipur, Oct. 16 -- The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Rajasthan on Wednesday launched a major investigation into Ramavatar Meena (53), an executive engineer posted as associate professor at the Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Vikas Sansthan, Jaipur, for allegedly amassing assets far beyond his declared income, officials said.
According to the officials, the accused has acquired assets worth approximately Rs.2.77 crore, which is about 115% higher than his legitimate earnings since joining government service.
"The action was taken based on some internal inputs following which Meena was on our radar for the last few months. On Wednesday, we searched his six plots in Jaipur's Indira Nagar, two houses in Sawai Madhopur and Karauli, and a farmhouse in Hindaun," said Bhupendra Dalia, the additional SP of ACB.
He added: "Each of these properties are worth lakhs of rupees which are now being calculated. We have also found some benami transactions on his six family members' names. At least Rs.3 lakh unaccounted cash was also recovered from his places."
The agency has meanwhile also seized one his bank account in State Bank of India which will be checked along with the lockers maintained in the same bank.
"ACB has also recovered a slew of property documents which had been on his wife and son's names. A Compass jeep and a Royal Enfield two-wheeler were also found," Dalia added.
According to ACB officials, Meena's wife was also a partner in a stone crusher company in Karauli while another farm was also being set up on her name recently to adjust the black-money.
Meena was first posted in Karauli as a JEN in 1997 and he was also currently serving as the state president of the government engineers' association in Rajasthan. "We have lodged an FIR against him. Soon, an approval will also be sought from his department to prosecute him," said the officer....
