4th post-natal death in Kota as woman dies of kidney failure
Kota, Oct. 29 -- A 25-year-old woman died at a super-specialty hospital affiliated with the Kota Medical College after developing kidney failure following childbirth, officials said on Wednesday. JK Lon Hospital superintendent Dr Nirmala Sharma said Reshu had high blood pressure and severe anaemia at the time of delivery. Her haemoglobin level was 6.5 grams per decilitre, significantly below the normal level of around 12 g/dL.
"According to the information available to us, she developed renal failure in Baran," Sharma said, explaining that it can involve formation of blood clots in small blood vessels.
Dr Vikas Khandelia, head of the nephrology department, said doctors attempted to remove antibodies from the patient's blood through plasmapheresis after she was brought to the hospital. However, the disease had already spread throughout her body by then, he said.
The latest death comes amid a series of maternal deaths at hospitals in Kota following childbirth-related complications.
On October 16, Reshma, 40, died after developing kidney failure following a Caesarean section. The next day, Roshan Bai, a resident of Baran, died due to excessive bleeding after a Caesarean delivery. On October 25, Shabnam Bano, 26, a resident of Chhabra in Baran district, also died following childbirth....
