BIKANER, May 16 -- Three sisters drowned in a farm water reservoir in Bikaner district's in the Bajju area on Thursday after one of them accidentally fell into it, said police. Station House Officer of Bajju police station Jagdish Kumar Pandher said the incident occurred in the agricultural fields of Gram Panchayat Grandhi, around 20 kilometres from Bajju subdivision headquarters. According to local residents, the sisters - identified as Dhapu, Sushila and Anu Meghwal - had gone to a nearby irrigation reservoir (diggi) for watering cattle and washing clothes. Among the deceased was 23-year-old Dhapu, wife of Surjaram, who had returned to her parental home from her in-laws' residence in Luna village just three days ago. She is survived by a son and a daughter. Her younger sisters Sushila and Anu were aged 17 and 18 respectively. Family members told police that the sisters had gone to the neighbour's diggi for washing clothes and were supposed to visit a relative's hamlet after finishing their work. However, when they did not return for several hours, their father Khetaram Meghwal contacted relatives and learnt that the girls had never reached there. Suspecting an accident, the family and villagers rushed to the reservoir. Preliminary information suggests that one of the sisters accidentally slipped into the deep water, following which the other two entered the reservoir in an attempt to rescue her. All three drowned. After being alerted, a large number of villagers gathered at the spot and local swimmers were pressed into rescue efforts. Two bodies were recovered after prolonged efforts, while the third body remained missing for several hours....
