3 of Guj family killed as SUV overturns in Raj
Barmer/Balotra, May 18 -- Three members of a family from Gujarat were killed and three others, including a child, were seriously injured when their Scorpio SUV overturned on the Bharatmala Expressway near Asotra in Rajasthan's Balotra district on Sunday afternoon, police said.
According to police, the accident occurred around 12 noon in the Jasol police station area. The vehicle was travelling at a high speed when the driver lost control, causing the SUV to overturn multiple times, a police officer said, adding that the impact was so severe that the vehicle was badly mangled and the occupants were thrown onto the roadside.
The family from Thavar village in Mehsana district, was on its way to Ramdevra for a pilgrimage. The deceased have been identified as Ajmal Khan, 35, his 32-year-old brother and Hitesh Bhai, 32.
Two others and Ajmal's child sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the District Hospital in Balotra, where they are undergoing treatment, the officer said.
On receiving information, Jasol police reached the spot and with the help of local residents, rescued the injured and shifted them to the hospital. The bodies of the deceased were taken into custody and kept in the mortuary, the officer said, adding that the family members have been informed.
Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding and loss of control were the primary causes of the accident, the officer said, adding that probe is underway....
