Udaipur, Sept. 30 -- A 28-year-old man has been arrested for beating his 60-year-old grandmother to death at Bagda village under Paroli police station area on Sunday with an iron tong, police said on Monday. According to police, the accused Lalaram (28), works as a priest (Bhopa) at a local religious place in the village. On Sunday, Lalaram allegedly brought the tong which is used in rituals and repeatedly attacked his grandmother, causing her to collapse on the spot with severe injuries to her head. Family members rushed her to the government hospital in a critical condition, but doctors declared her dead. Station house officer (SHO) Prabhati Lal Meena said, "The accused Lalaram attacked his grandmother with an iron tong while she was at home. After the attack, he fled and hid in a maize field." "Following a search operation of nearly four hours, police arrested him and recovered the weapon from the spot. Further investigation is underway," he said. The victim's son Kanha, who witnessed the incident, said, "My mother, Aji Devi, was cooking food on the stove when my nephew Lalaram suddenly came with a large iron tong used in worship. He struck her on the head repeatedly. I tried to stop him, but he did not stop. We rushed her to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead."
