Bikaner, Oct. 5 -- At least 22 people were arrested on Saturday after violence erupted on Friday afternoon over the management of a gurdwara in Hanumangarh, said police, adding that the property was seized by the district administration and an internet shutdown was affected. According to inspector general of police Hemant Kumar Sharma, "The situation is completely in control. The property has been seized and all the staff ordered to leave. An additional force has been deployed in the Goluwala area and internet services are still suspended." Sharma added that a group of assailants allegedly tried to forcibly enter the premises of the Mehtabgarh Sahib gurudwara on Friday afternoon and take control of it, wherein they subsequently clashed with a rival faction already present inside. Eight people, including children and a Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) jawan, were injured as a result, he said. The injured were initially taken to a local hospital before being referred to the district hospital in Sri Ganganagar, added Sharma. Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Janesh Tanwar said, "About 100 people entered the gurdwara premises early in the morning. Multiple people who sustained injuries in the incident are currently under treatment and their condition is stable." Forces from different police stations, along with RAC personnel, were deployed in the area, he said, adding that two separate cases were registered under relevant sections of the BNS against both parties involved.
